I love Sherlock Holmes stories but I am a particularly partial to the series written by Laurie R. King. Though Sherlock Holmes is a major character, it is his wife that dominates the series. Mary Russell is an amazing character and I have loved each of the books, beginning with The Beekeeper’s Apprentice. We are fortunate that Laurie R. King begins Russell’s story when she is quite young as there is a treasure trove of experiences that we get to come along for.
I must admit that I don’t generally read short stories but in Mary Russell’s War, I was intrigued. Each story in this collection brings more clarity to Russell, Holmes, Mrs. Hudson and Russell’s Uncle Jake.
I don’t have a favorite of these new stories, (well maybe, Beekeeper’s for Beginners) but rather would encourage you to read it and savor the beginning, middle and end.
