Authors-Authors-Everywhere!!

Welcome January 2012! Make sure you make your reservations soon for the wonderful variety of  authors that will be stopping by the Warren-Newport Public Library in the next few months.
First up is Charlie Newton on Saturday, January 14 at 3:00pm. Edgar-finalist Newton follows his acclaimed debut, Calumet City with a gritty and complex novel that shows the gang-infested streets of Chicago. In Start Shooting, Police officers Bobby and Ruben Vargas are implicated in a decade old murder by a series of newspaper articles. Charlie Newton is an author to follow or find for the first time. This atmospheric novel will grab you and keep you turning pages. If you enjoy thrillers with Chicago as the back-drop–Look no further!

We have a new demonstration kitchen and we are fortunate to offer a cookbook author  who will demonstrate from her new cookbook, The Treats Truck Baking Book: Cookies, Brownies & Goodies Galore!  on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:00pm. A winner of the Vendy Award for Best Dessert Vendor, Kim Ima, creator of The Treats Truck, can be found baking and dreaming up new Treats at The Treats Truck Stop but luckily you won’t have to go to New York to meet her—because she will be here!

On February 22 at 7:00pm you have the opportunity to meet two fabulous historical writers. Some of you might remember Lauren Willig when she was here for our “Cozy Library” a few years ago. Her “Pink Carnation” series is a winner with humor, historical details and a bit of romance to bind it all together. Her latest, The Garden Intrigue, continues the fight against Napoleon and his plot to invade England with wit and intrigue. Joining her, is Tasha Alexander known for her historical research and wonderful intrigue. The “Lady Emily Series” is set in the 1890s in cities across Europe and follows the adventures of a young, Victorian widow about to come out of mourning after the death of her husband. A duo that can’t miss—no matter the era!

Calling all Quilters!! Calling all Readers!! Best-selling author Jennifer Chiaverini will be here on Sunday, February 26 at 2:00pm to discuss her latest novel, The Wedding Quilt. In addition to the seventeen volumes of the Elm Creek Quilts series, she is the author of four volumes of quilt patterns inspired by her novels, as well as the designer of the Elm Creek Quilts fabric lines from Red Rooster Fabrics. Weaving the patterns of lives has never been so good!

Erik Larson known as the master of narrative non-fiction, garnered praise and best-selling status with The Devil in the White City. He is returning to the Warren-Newport Public Library on Sunday, March 18 at 2:00pm. He will be discussing his latest, In the Garden of Beasts, along with writing styles and research strategies. In 1933 Berlin, Willaim Dodd becomes First Ambassador to Hitler’s Germany. This atmospheric novel will describe the tensions and beginning knowledge of Americans in Germany.
